The real benefits of exercise

Now that the new year has begun, its time to make 2020 the best year yet!  If your new
year's resolution was to “lose weight,” check out this article on how regular activity has
a connection with hope, happiness, and social connection.

Instead of focusing on losing weight, shift your thought process to everything you can
gain by adding a regular fitness routine to your schedule.  The article focuses on 5 ways
that getting your body moving can affect you.
--The first way is by activating pleasure through your brain.  Your brain will send
neurotransmitters to create a natural high in your body.
--The second way is to become a “more social form of yourself.” This is done when your
brain releases endorphins, which makes you able to form better bonds with others.
--The third way is that it will help with depression. By increasing pleasure and creating bonds
with others, the activity will also help with depression, anxiety, and grief.
--Regular activity will also reveal hidden strengths. By adding exercise, you can overcome
thoughts such as “I am too old, too weak, too big…” and realize that you are strong and able
to overcome obstacles.
--Finally, regular activity is a boost for the brain. When you exercise a protein called
myokines is released that can act as a natural antidepressant and reduce the risk of
cognitive decline.

For more info on each, be sure to check out the full article.  Taking care of your body is an
essential part of a long, happy, and healthy life.
